Michelle Humphries Piano Studio

This studio offers rotating lessons, also known as 20/20/20 lessons.

So just what is that?

3 students will be scheduled per hour and rotate between 3 stations:

  • 20 minutes with me at my acoustic piano: Here we will work on technique, repertoire and some theory.
  • 20 minutes at a keyboard connected to an iPad using headphones and working with the Piano Maestro app.
  • 20 minutes at the desk working on theory: This station may vary from week to week but will always include working on rhythm and note reading skills. Some students will also choose to play on the keyboard to work on their songs.

2 - 3 times during the semester we will have a group lesson during the hour.

So what are the benefits of these rotating lessons?

  1. Students will have less repertoire each week so at home practice will take less time.
  2.  You can drop your children off and have a little more time to take a break or run errands while your students get more hands on time with a keyboard and learn and retain more each week.
  3.  Students get the team feel of being in a group setting with the benefits of private lessons.

All school age students will begin in a rotation lesson. 30 minute private lessons are reserved for students who have reached level 3A of the Piano Adventures series.  Some students at level 2B will be ready to move away from rotating lessons, but only if they also participate in festivals throughout the year.

If a student does not practice well between lessons, misses lessons often, or benefits from working on one piece of music over several weeks, then rotating lessons are a better fit for them, regardless of the level.
